Lottie Ryan has opened up about her late dad Gerry for the first time as the family approach his fifth anniversary.

The radio star’s daughter said it’s taken her this long to speak about him to the media as she hasn’t felt comfortable before.

“It’s taken me a long, long time because it’s not natural to talk about bereavement unless you are talking to members of your family,” the broadcaster told the Irish Sun.

“I’m getting into my groove with my own career so it’s something I’m comfortable with now.”

Gerry Ryan passed away on April 30th 2010 from cardiac arrhythmia at the age of 53. His family will celebrate his anniversary tomorrow.

“Dad’s anniversary is always sad but we celebrate his life as well. We get together and chat, tell stories. There are so many good memories for the family” Lottie said.

Gerry left behind his wife Morah and five children, Lottie, Bonnie, Rex, Elliot and Babette.

Most of his children have chosen to follow in their father’s footpath and pursue careers in showbiz.

Lottie now has her own 2FM Radio Show, The Early Early Breakfast Show, on Saturday and Sunday mornings at 6AM.

Lottie’s younger sister Bonnie is a singer and songwriter who has supported many famous people on stage including Westlife when they were on tour.

Gerry’s eldest son Rex graduated from The Gaiety School of acting in 2013 and already has a long line of acting and producing achievements under his belt.

Lottie, Morah and Bonnie joined the troops of Ireland’s most stylish on Friday evening at the Peter Mark VIP Style Awards in The Marker Hotel.
